Eileen’s Lessons – October 2017
A number of years ago, I spoke to a woman, we’ll call her “Mary”. Mary was dropping her grandson off at day camp. Mary told me that she was very tired and was about to take a nap. I (wrongly) assumed that she was retired and was going home to nap. I was then told that she naps at work.
How? Well, this is her protocol:
- When she gets to work, she turns on her computer (with screen saver disabled).
- She wears dark glasses.
- She sits down in her chair in a way that allows her to put both of her hands under her bottom to keep her from falling.
I was amazed. I then asked her how long she had been doing this. Her answer: 10 years. Now, I’m not going to say where she worked. I can say that it wasn’t a past, present or future client of The HR Team.
Do you have people who are there but not really there? Time to review your performance management system? I thought so. Why not contact The HR Team?
